Disappointed
I feel a drop of warm liquid hit my hand. That better not be blood. I hear the hiss of air leaving a tire. Damn. On the bright side, I got excitement and an opportunity to practice. Scene size-up: on the side Claremont Wilderness Park trail, one person by himself on the ground beside his bike, no danger besides the sun. I wrote a SOAP note.
I looked down and thankfully discovered that the drop was sweat from my forehead. I ended up with scrapes on my wrist and left forearm and a bruise on my hip. Cleaned the gravel out of the wounds and walked my bike the remaining mile back to the car. The outcome was OK, but I’m really disappointed in my planning for the bike ride.
I Did, But I Can’t Believe I Almost Didn’t:
bring more water than I thought I’d need, bring my T-shirt though I wasn’t wearing it, leave an away message that said I was out biking, bring snack food
I Didn’t:
bring enough water, bring any sun protection, leave any info on where I was or when I should get back, bring my first aid kit
I can’t believe I went out on a solo trip with the plan “assume nothing will go wrong.”

I’m sooooo glad you learned the easy way- i.e., no lasting bad consequences. Nothing like a jarring experience to create a memory trace that will help you plan better in the future. Love and hugs, Mom
