Twenty-four
Today is the first day of the rest of my life, as the saying goes, and the first of 365 days of being 24 years old. 24-year-old Tom doesn’t feel very different than 23-year-old Tom. But I have to admit my place in the world has changed dramatically. I haven’t “just graduated from college.” I haven’t arrived anywhere, but I’ve definitely begun the next step. It’s going well and I have a lot to be grateful for.
I took my job at Zane Benefits hoping it would teach me about business and give me chances to meet important and wise people. It has. I dress better, work better, and manage better than I did 9 months ago. I sound infinitely more competent on the phone. I’ve also met a bunch of notable people.
Utah is incredible. When I leave here, it will only be a matter of time before I come back. Whether I’ll be unshaven, unwashed, and in a tent, or preppy-looking and enjoying my vacation home in the mountains depends on a few things… I’m hoping for both.
Postscript – the nay-sayers who complain that having a hot tub is more trouble and money than it’s worth are wrong.
