Keep’em Coming
Another weekend, another camping trip.
This time it was to Joshua Tree for OTL‘s semesterly leader training. I didn’t think I was going to go, since I don’t technically work for OTL any more. But one of the current staff couldn’t make it, and I’ve done this a bunch and I like doing it (as the current OTL leadership knows =) so I got an invite to drive, hike, camp, teach, and earn some change.
The trip went really well. We had about twenty kids, mostly freshmen, and only like 4 guys (whoa) aside from 4 of the 5 leaders, and the kids were all pretty happy and attentive and — here’s the real test — very helpful and uncomplaining when we got back and did group gear clean-up. Sam and I taught first aid, and while we had to keep it really basic due to time, I think we got some knowledge across. We weren’t quite badass enough to pull off a NOLS-style whiteboard, but we didn’t need it. And JTree was its usual gorgeous self (see pics — I even titled them this time!).
